Supercharge Your Business or Career
By Becoming a Published AuthorUPDATE AND REVIEW OF PROJECT, September 5, 2009
You will recall that I created an opportunity for people who aspire to be published authors to co-author a book with me. I had titles for three books —
1. Forgiving Our Parents: The Key to Success, Happiness and Freedom
2. Forgiving Our Partners: The Key to Winning the Relationship Game
3. Making Our Passion Our Business: The Key to Manifesting Our Dreams
The idea was that I would write the first chapter, setting out the general theme. A number of co-authors would also be featured, each contributing a chapter which added to the theme but represented their own perspectives and experiences. Their names would appear on the cover of the book right under mine, listed as co-authors.
We had a lot of interest and some good submissions but we still did not get enough submissions by August 31st , 2009, the last of many deadlines, to make it worthwhile going ahead with the three books in the way we had planned. But don’t worry, the project still has life. We are just going to do it differently.
Instead of planning to print books, we are shifting over to the idea of creating all three titles as e-books. That will remove the main block that prevented a lot of talented writers from participating — the $1,250 up-front money to cover print costs. I will now ask only $200 from each contributing author as an entry fee. We are also extending the deadline for entries until the Spring of 2010.
The other main stumbling block was the amount of editing and re-writing that seemed to be required to make them inspiring to readers. That meant extra expense and a lot of uncertainty. However, with the benefit of hindsight we now realize that it would help you to significantly cut down on the amount of re-writing and editing required if we give you a structure to work within. The problem before was that most submissions were all victim story and very little inspiration.
So, in order to make it more inspirational to the reader, we will ask that you structure your essay in the following way: 20% victim story, 35% processing the story and 45% reframe - plus the benefits that came from having done the Radical Forgiveness process. We would ask that you use a similar ratio with the Making Your Passion Your Business. Another piece of advise is to use the words in the title as your checklist of what should be in the essay.
Also, Nina, our editor, is willing to work with people by acting as a writing coach for people at less than her normal editing fee. Working with her, you would know fairly early on, well before the deadline, whether you are likely to be accepted or not, so you wouldn’t be wasting your time, effort and money.
There are several other advantages to an e-book besides cost savings. An e-book is more easily updated, added to and changed so it is much more flexible than printed books. E-books can be any length so we can have more — or less — than just the 6 or 8 authors.
E-books can be marketed through sites like Clickbank.com and you would be able to sell it either directly through your own web site or as an affiliate on ours. If you have a Facebook page you can market it that way too. We shall retain the copyright and we may turn it into a Print-On-Demand book which you will be able to purchase from us at 40% discount or better, depending on quantity, if you should wish to do so.
The project is now once again open to all, so I hope that a lot more talented writers and aspiring authors will contribute now that we have removed the main blocks and given everyone a lot more time. So as not to overwhelm Nina, we will need to stagger the deadlines for the three books. January 31st for the Forgiving Parents chapters, February 28th for the Forgiving Partners e-book and March 31st for the business/passion chapters. That will give people time to work with Nina to get them to level required. I would see us aiming to get the first e-book online by the Spring of 2010. Stay tuned.
If you have an interest in participating, please click on the title, or titles, you are likely to contribute to. (Even those who have already submitted essays please do this now too.)
This will take you to a sign-in page. That will help me keep a list of who is doing what and will give me a way to contact everyone. PLEASE DO NOT E-MAIL ME DIRECT. I WILL CONTACT YOU AFTER YOU HAVE SIGNED IN.
